Robotic Engineers  While the numbers of women embarking on science and technology careers are still relatively low, girls often outperform boys in the so-called STEM subjects and steps are being taken to encourage them to keep up science, technology, engineering and mathematics to university level and beyond.   In the future we may well use robots to carry out the more dangerous and unpleasant tasks of everyday life, but someone needs to build and maintain those robots.   If more girls and young women can be encouraged to take up careers in engineering and science, they could be ideally suited to designing and building the labour-saving robots we will demand.
